In 1990, a small group of 32 producers came together to establish what is now known as “Catuai Amarillo”—a name inspired by the vibrant yellow Catuai coffee variety.

Today, the collective has evolved into a dedicated group of 16 farmers, cultivating approximately 60 hectares of coffee across the mist-covered highlands of Veracruz, at elevations between 1,250 and 1,400 meters. Over the past three decades, the cooperative has transformed from simply selling coffee cherries to middlemen into a sophisticated organization that produces organic, Fair Trade-certified parchment coffee for export to markets in the U.S. and Europe.

They harvest roughly 18 tons of organic-certified parchment coffee annually, utilizing shade-grown techniques under a diverse canopy of trees to actively protect local biodiversity.

Beyond coffee, the group is a hub of innovation and sustainability. Their diverse initiatives include a vermicompost project producing over 120 tons of natural fertilizer each year, a nursery and variety collection featuring more than 45 coffee cultivars, and a conservation lagoon that serves as both a bird habitat and an aquaculture experimental site. Furthermore, they are pioneers in coffee education, having provided learning opportunities to over 500 children through their specialized youth programs.
