タイトルの通り王道中の王道のゲイシャです。2018年に買い付けたパナマのエスメラルダ農園を思い出しました。その頃のゲイシャ種は最近のような本当にゲイシャ？というようなものに出会うことはなく、豆面、アロマ、テイスト、全てが最高品質でした。そういった芸者に出会えることは少なくなり、出会っても原料の高騰化も影響して買い付けることが困難になりました。信頼するsyuhariの辻本さんのおかげで良いものを手に入れることができました。ぜひご賞味ください。

フアン・カルロスは、幼い頃から父親の援助を受けて、サンタ・バルバラにあるサン・ニコラス村の1/2ヘクタールのコーヒー農園から自分の農園を始めました。

コーヒーの収穫でお金を貯め、数年後、別の場所にもっと大きなコーヒー農場を購入することができました。ここで、同じく父親から農場を受け継いだ妻と出会い、こうして彼らは10ヘクタールのコーヒー農場を持つようになり、すべてのコーヒーは一般市場で売られるようになりました。

12年前、長男が心臓病を患い、検査の結果、開胸手術をしなければならないことが判明した。

そのため、手術費用を捻出するために農園をすべて売却しなければなりませんでしたが、おかげさまで息子は治療後回復しました。

そこで、フアン・カルロスさんは家族でゼロからのスタートを決意し、サンタ・バルバラの山の高台にとても安く売られている物件を見つけて2015年に購入し、翌年この町に引っ越して、子供たちと一緒にコーヒーを植えたのです。その最初のコーヒー農園はうまくいかず、寒さで植物が枯れてしまいました。

しかし、そのことや多くの経済的困難にもかかわらず、フアン・カルロスは決してあきらめず、3年前に再び農園を作り、今度はゲイシャコーヒーをはじめ、パカスやブルボンなどの品種をたくさん植えました。

農園へのアクセスは最大の課題で、農園へのアクセス道路は非常に険しく、雨が降ると車では入れず、歩いて家までコーヒーを運んだり、農園の資材を背負ったりしなければならないのです。

ようやく行けたフアン氏の農園。去年のゲイシャは、初収穫のロットのため、1ボックスのみ。今年のゲイシャは2年目で13ボックス。

よりインテンシティが増しコンプレックスなフレーバーも感じることができ、非常に良い出来。これからずっとお付き合いしていきたい農家さんの一人。

Juan Carlos started his own coffee farm at an early age with the help of his father, starting with a 1/2 hectare coffee farm in the village of San Nicolas in Santa Barbara.

He saved money from the coffee harvest and a few years later was able to purchase a larger coffee farm in another location. Here he met his wife, who had also inherited the farm from her father, and thus they had a 10-hectare coffee farm, all coffee sold on the open market.

Twelve years ago, their eldest son suffered from a heart ailment, and tests revealed that he would have to undergo open heart surgery.

Therefore, he had to sell the entire farm to raise money for the surgery, but thanks to his efforts, his son recovered after the treatment.

So Juan Carlos decided to start from scratch with his family, found a property for sale very cheaply high in the mountains of Santa Barbara, bought it in 2015, moved to this town the following year, and planted coffee with his children. That first coffee plantation did not do well and the cold weather killed the plants.

But despite that and many other economic difficulties, Juan Carlos never gave up, and three years ago he planted again, this time with Geisha coffee and many other varieties, including Pacas and Bourbon.

Access to the plantation is the biggest challenge: the access road to the plantation is very steep, and when it rains, you cannot drive in and have to walk to the house to carry the coffee or carry the plantation materials on your back.

I finally made it to Juan’s farm. Last year’s Geisha was only one box, as it was the first harvest lot. This year’s Geisha is the second year with 13 boxes.

The intensity is higher and complex flavors can be felt, and it is very good. One of the farmers I would like to keep in touch with in the future.
